National Night Out 2008 is an annual nationwide event designed to strengthen neighborhood spirit and unity, raise crime prevention awareness, and develop partnerships between the City and the community-on a street, block and city-wide level. This year, the city-wide celebration will include Neighborhood Crime Watch groups, CERT members, homeowners associations, and other neighborhood groups interested in celebrating and strengthening their neighborhood connections.
Hosting a National Night Out party is a simple way for people to meet one another, have fun, and explore how they might work together to improve the safety and quality of their neighborhood. The City of Fremont encourages neighborhoods to organize a block party, barbecue, ice cream social or similar gathering. If you plan to block off your street for your celebration, you will need to get a block party permit from the City of Fremont by calling Nancy Tacchella at 494-4473. The deadline to file for a PERMIT is Tuesday, July 8, 2008.
Groups of City of Fremont elected officials, commissioners, and employees, including police and fire department staff, enjoy visiting National Night Out events to help strengthen the ties between residents and the City. Last year we had over 140 parties, and every party received at least one visit. This year, due to budget constraints, we will not be able to visit every event, but if you register early you will increase the likelihood of receiving a visit.
To register your party or for a copy of our Block Party Guide, contact Community Engagement Specialist Karen Blount at (510)790-6689, or email her at kblount@ci.fremont.ca.us. The deadline to REGISTER is 5:00 p.m. on Monday, July 21, 2008. Only registered groups will be eligible for a visit!
